$10–20 Pizza restaurant

Ram Sundarw

Sometimes, you just know when a small business owner has a special kind of passion that sets them apart. Forno on Wheels is one of those places that makes you realize the rumors are true: New Jersey really does have some of the best pizza in America. As someone who’s always had a soft spot for the pizza joints off Wall Street, Little Italy, and Brooklyn, I can tell you that Forno on Wheels has captured that magic—especially with their sauce. There’s something about the way they finish their pies that’s tough to find outside New Jersey and NYC. Sure, the Midwest (where I hail from) has its charms with pizza, but those legendary New York Area tomatoes? They’re not just a myth.

While I’ll always love a fresh-from-the-oven slice, there’s something comforting about enjoying a room-temp piece while working on your garage gym. Thanks to Forno’s, I had the energy to power through my weekend project! I’ll definitely be back for a fresh slice soon. And now, I’m inspired to try making my own pan pizza—though I doubt I’ll get my hands on those incredible tomatoes anytime soon.

Forno’s seems to be leveraging the advantages of short-chain supply systems to deliver fresher, higher-quality foods while promoting more sustainable business practices. I hope they not only stay competitive in this approach, but also strive for excellence in their business processes. I sensed a genuine passion from the owners and wish them the very best in the notoriously challenging restaurant industry. The talent is certainly there, and I hope that luck will also be on their side.

Rudy, the owner, was an absolute pleasure. He loves his pies and it shows. High quality ingredients, absolutely delicious Ricotta, and an attitude that sells. I almost couldn’t believe this kind of place was tucked away back here. If you have the chance, make your way out and get yourself anything topped with ricotta cheese. Ask for a little bit of hot honey drizzle, you won’t be disappointed.

Vegetarian options: A lot of the pizzas have no meat, highly recommend the ricotta pie. The cheese is of excellent quality.

Parking: His oven on Wheels is parked on the back side of the building. Park up, walk over, and your pie will be ready in 5 to 10 minutes.

Food and service were incredible. I happened to stumble upon this truck while working at this site and had a friendly welcome from the owner. He offered me a cup of espresso while we waited for the ovens to heat up, which was much needed on this cold day. He told me his story of how he got this truck while I watched him make his delicious pizzas! He let me try the cheeseburger pizza and I got the Little Italy pizza to go. Highly recommend!
